Frequently Asked Questions

We're glad you've come to this page as we can help you understand a little more about hypnosis and dispel some of the popular myths

We hope the following answers your questions, if not, please let us know

Q: What is hypnosis?
A: Hypnosis is something we have all encountered at some stage or another, it is simply having the mind enter a relaxed, suggestive state, often termed as a trance.

Q: Will I lose control?
A: No. You will remain in total control, you will be able to hear every word that is spoken and surrounding sounds, it is solely up to you to decide what you act upon and what you don't.

Q: Will I cluck like a chicken?
A: Only if you really want to, but it won't be at our suggestion. A common misconception of hypnosis is the impression people have gained through very entertaining stage hypnotists. A stage hypnotist is there to entertain. He will ask for volunteers (usually only those who are willing to "perform" will volunteer. The stage hypnotist will retain only the most suggestible, and "permit" them to act in unusual ways. The volunteer could refuse, but in the spirit of entertaining the audience will usually behave as "instructed", after all, they have the excuse that they are hypnotised!

Q: What if I can't be hypnotised?
A: Over 95% of the population can reach a sufficient level of "trance" to gain the most from hypnotherapy. The remainder will still be able to relax, and if you truly are uncomfortable with the approach, we will be using many techniques of which hypnosis is only one.

Q: What techniques do you use?
A: We use many techniques and approaches. The most commonly known being hypnotherapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)

Q: What is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)?
A: It is a way of talking about:
 * How you think about yourself, the world and other people
 * How what you do affects your thoughts and feelings.
CBT can help you to change how you think ("Cognitive") and what you do ("Behaviour)". These changes can help you to feel better. Unlike some of the other talking treatments, it focuses on the "here and now" problems and difficulties. Instead of focussing on the causes of your distress or symptoms in the past, it looks for ways to improve your state of mind now...

Q: What is Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)?
A: NLP explores the relationships between how we think (neuro), how we communicate (linguistic) and our patterns of behaviour and emotion (programmes). It is used to transform the way people think and act to have the greatest impact both professionally and personally.

Q: Should I care whether you use CBT or NLP or hypnotherapy?
A: No. We will discuss the approaches with you to ensure you are comfortable, if you really want to know if an approach is CBT or NLP based we'll tell you, otherwise we'll be using a variety of combinations from our large toolbox of therapies.

Q: Will the techniques you use work for me?
A: Every one of our clients is an individual so we tailor the sessions to you depending on what you need, and the way that you think about things (your primary "modality"). Although there can be no guarantees we are sure that we can find the right approach for you

Q: How long will it take?
A: The initial consultation will be able us to determine the correct answer to this one as it really does depend on the reason for your visit. For example smoking cessation is one visit, weight control is usually up to 8 sessions, stress relief and phobias can be treated in 3 to 6 sessions. Each session lasts 50 - 60 minutes, and will be tailored to your needs.

Q: Can I book a session for somebody else?
A: Yes and no. Of course you can book a session on behalf of someone else at their request. But for the therapy to be of real benefit, the person you're booking for must want to have their issue resolved. For example, booking a surprise session for your partner who smokes will only benefit if they truly want to stop smoking.

Q: How much will it cost?
A: Your initial consultation of 30 minutes is free, and each session after that which last 50 - 60 minutes are £75. You really are worth the investment in your future.

Q: What are your "group sessions" and what about privacy?
A: We run a small group (up to 6 attendees) session introducing learning to relax, goal achievement and dealing with stress. We run them as 3 x 1 hour relaxed sessions over a 3 week period (usually week-ends or evenings). We don't delve into attendees private lives but keep the sessions open, friendly and relaxed. If there is any issue with confidentiality at all we address it immediately.
